HVAC FAQs

1. How often should I have my equipment serviced?

Both heating and cooling equipment should be inspected, serviced, and cleaned at least once a year. We recommend at the beginning of a new season to ensure that you don’t have more problems down the road. At Carolina Refrigeration Heating & Cooling, we can Inspect filters, clean components, tighten electrical connections and adjust blower components.

2. Why do I need my air ducts cleaned by a professional?

Having your air ducts cleaned by a professional ensures that the job is done right. The better your air duct is cleaned, the more efficiently your HVAC system will run. Not only does it help your system run properly, it makes the air safer for your family to breathe. The process can help get rid of hiding bacteria and fungus, drywall dust, carpet fibers, and even rodents or insects.

3. What types of problems can I have with my ducts?

Any issue with your air ducts can lead to your HVAC system running less efficiently. The ducts can be to big, the vents can be misplaced, and most commonly, you can have leaks. Call Carolina Refrigeration Heating & Cooling if you think you are having issues so that we can correctly diagnose the problem.

4. I hear sounds coming from my HVAC unit, is this a problem?

Any noise that is different than normal coming from your HVAC system is a cause for concern. The abnormal sound could be something simple or it could be a major issue that needs addressed to prevent major damage and cost.

5. How can I help control my heating and cooling costs?

The best way to control your heating and cooling cost is to perform the proper maintenance annually on your HVAC system. Performing the proper maintenance can save you up to 20% a year on your electrical bill.

It is important to make sure you change your filters about once a month, as well as using better value filters. Also, if you keep your thermostat at conservative temperature without switching it up too often, this should help.

6. What type of air filter should I use?

We would recommend a minimum MERV 6. The higher the MERV number value the better. We recommend having Carolina Refrigeration verify you have enough return air to support higher MERV filters before using anything higher than a MERV 6.

7. If you install a new unit for me, what is the average life expectancy of the equipment?

The average life expectancy of a new HVAC system is between 10 to 15 years. There are a lot of ways to help ensure you get the full life expectancy through proper yearly maintenance.

8. Do you offer any warranties?

Yes, we offer a 1 year labor warranty with all or systems installed. Carolina Refrigeration also offers extended nondeductible labor warranties for up to 12 years at an additional low cost fee.

9. Do you offer financing?

Yes, we understand that the costs associated with HVAC repairs and installations can be a lot to handle. We offer financing resources to help ease the burden and get your HVAC system back up and running as soon as possible!
